The first World Cup of the Qatar Airways GKA Kite World Tour season has taken place in Furwairit, Qatar over the last five days. The Tour’s freestyle riders did put on an exciting show of high-performance competition in this unique, natural set-up. A shallow water lagoon makes it perfect for freestyle competition. In the end, it was brazilian Bruna Kajiya and the italian Gianmaria Coccoluto who secured the victory in the first World Cup of the season, opening the fight for the title in 2023.

On the final day of competition at the Visit Qatar GKA Freestyle Kite World Cup, a packed house at Fuwairit Kite Beach witnessed the first clash of the season where Bruna Kajiya made an ecstatic return to the top step and Gianmaria Coccoluto’s title defence held firm. After an epic climax to the Surf-Freestyle championship on Friday, focus shifted to the Surf-Slalom fleets on day four of the Copa Kitley GWA Wingfoil World Cup Brazil.

After two action packed days of competition of the Copa Kitley GWA Wingfoil World Cup Brazil, the big business of day three on the men’s side was finding out who would finally take the Surf-Freestyle championship home!

Rejoining the contest at the round three stage, every heat on day two was a battle to stay in the competition. Once again we had solid wind and waves that made for heats of high energy and entertainment. The World Championship titles left to be decided will reach their climax at this event, running in Taiba, 12 – 16th November. 33 men and 12 women signed-up for Surf-Freestyle, while Surf-Slalom saw an increase of 41 Men and 14 women who will battle it out around the courses later in the week.

Strong levante wind conditions allowed to complete rounds 1 and most of 2 for the men, alongside the women’s quarter finals. The GWA Wingfoil World Cup is delighted to be back in Tarifa (ESP) for the penultimate wingfoil event of the 2022 season, where 48 men and 15 women have registered to participate in this pure Surf-Freestyle event. The opening day of the competition period at Bibo Beach delivered the opening throwdowns of the penultimate Surf-Freestyle showdown of the season on Wednesday 12th October!

After a long final day of competition, the new world champions are crowned: In the youngest age groups, U15, Artun Senol (TUR) claims the 2022 title in the boys’ races, while Hanna Simon from Hungary not only wins the final in the girls’ U15, but also in the U17 races. French windsurfer Noé Garandeau is the new champion in the boys age group of under 17-year-olds. And finally, the victories in the U19s go to Charlie Dixon from Great Britain (boys) and Isreal’s Tamar Steinberg (girls).

On the fifth day of the Youth and Junior World Championships in Silvaplana, it was cloudy and cold. The plan was to start all the finals that could not be done so far, but the wind was not sufficient. Instead, a night Tow-In Freestyle show was started in the evening.

Results in the U17 boys, the French Noé Garandeau (FRA 38) remains on first place. Tom Nicolle (FRA 55), who dropped to third after a protest yesterday, had a very good performance winning today’s race and accomplished to climb up to second place overall. The Polish boy, Igor Lewinsky (POL 30), who yesterday was second after the protest, today took the third place overall after a tie break with the French Nicolle. The third day of the iQFOiL Youth & Junior World Championship was a total success, due to the wind blowing more than the day before, the race committee decided to launch Course Races. There was a total of 18 races that day!

What an amazing final day of action we saw at the Tarifa Wing Pro 2021, where 15 year old Riccardo Zorzi stormed up the ladder to win the Surf-Freestyle discipline. On the racing side, Mathis Ghio and Olivia Piana showed amazing focus and speed to win.

Day Three of the Tarifa Wing Pro was all about the tow-in action, as we ran an expression session in the waves whilst the athletes and crew waited for the wind to arrive. A total of 18 athletes signed up to participate in the tow-in competition, and we saw some amazing surfing from riders such as young gun Malo Guenole, Titouan Galea from New Caledonia, Kane de Wilde from USA and Italian Riccardo Zorzi.
