YOUR Ötztaler SocialRadmarathon 2020 | Highlights
The Ötztaler Cycle Marathon is one of the most popular amateur road cycling events worldwide: Regularly more than 4000 participants cross 4 steep Alpine passes, 238 kilometres in distance, and 5,500 metres in altitude in the picturesque Ötztal in Austria.
But for the 2020 edition things were a little different as holding the 40th anniversary edition of the event, having thousands of cyclists locking horns in the midst of a pandemic was not possible. That is why the organizers of the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon offered to the cycling community a truly unique charity event on the "Ötztaler Race Weekend" from 28 to 30 August. Every cyclist could complete the well-known distance of 238 kilometers within an innovative concept: For the Ötztaler SocialCycle Marathon they could chose a personal, favourite route all over the world.
In the end more than 1800 participants worldwide from 34 nations from Australia to Scotland participated, more of 1000 of them finished the planned distance.
