SPAR Swiss Epic 2023 - Stage 4 - Best Of
The Queen Stage proofed it’s name with a nail-biting sprint finish in the men race and drama in the women race. In the men race it all came down to a sprint finish between the two top teams, Canyon Northwave and Wilier Pirelli. After being in the lead at the top of the Scalettapass Canyon were chased down by Wilier Pirelli in the downhill. All four riders approached the final few hundreds meter together and it was Wout Alleman (BEL) from Wilier Pirelli who made the first move and got in front of the group and crossed the line first. Now it’s all about who is crossing the finish line next – the first two riders over the line per team are the winners – and it was just a margin between the three others. Stutzman (SUI), Stosek (CZE) and Geismayr (AUT) within centimeters. But in the end Geismayr & Alleman took the win. Stutzman (SUI) & Stosek (CZE) secured their yellow leader jersey with the second place and team Bulls, Simon Schneller (GER) and Axel Roudil Cortinat (FRA) cam third and are now in third overall as well.
In the women race the drama happened on a gravel road, where Adelheid Morath (GER) and Kim Le Court (MRI) crashed. Their handlebars touched each-others and both went down. Adelheid could not continue the race since she broke her collarbone. Last year’s Swiss Epic winner, Adelheid Morath (GER) and Bettina Janas (GER) from Team Davos Klosters, laying in second overall had to retire. Kim Le Court (MRI) was able to continue the race with pain. In the end, the overall leaders, Kim Le Court (MRI) and Vera Looser (NAM) finished second with round about 15min behind todays stage winners Bulls | Torpado, Katazina Sosna (LTU) and Irina Lützelschwab (SUI). Le Court/Looser are still leading the race with 35min ahead of Sosna/Lützelschwab now in second overall.
