GKA Freestyle-Kite World Cup - Cauipe (BRA) - Best of Finals
It is the penultimate stop of the Freestyle-Kite discipline on the Qatar Airways GKA Kite World Tour 2023. The event takes place on Brazil's Cauipe Lagoon, which offers butter-flat, warm waters and consistent winds, making it perfect for freestyle kiting. Brazil’s Bruna Kajiya cements her place at the top of the Freestyle rankings on the Qatar Airways GKA Kite World Tour. Former world champion Arthur Guillebert (FRA) takes the win in a tight final, which gives the Frenchman two top finishes heading to the grand finale next month in Fuwairit, Qatar.
In the men's competition, former World Champion Arthur Guillebert (FRA) wins a hard-fought final. Guillebert faces Swiss competitor Maxime Chabloz, who proves to be a formidable opponent. Chabloz performes mindblowing and innovative tricks, including a “Blind Pop”. The competition remaines intense down to the final trick, with Guillebert's “Front Blind Mobe 5” earning a remarkable score of 9.47. The pressure is on for Chabloz to respond, but unfortunately, he crashes on his last two tricks, securing Guillebert's triumph. German youngster Finn Flügel is making his first final appearance, competing for the third podium spot against Tom Bridge (GBR). However, both are unable to repeat their stellar performances from the previous rounds and appear to struggle under the pressure. Ultimately, Bridge claims the third place on the podium, which leaves Flügel right behind him.
In the women's competition, Brazilian athlete Bruna Kajiya, at 36 the oldest woman on tour, secures victory in what she considers her second home, triumphing over teenage reigning World Champion Mikaili Sol (USA). Kajiya and Sol are engaging in a nail-biting final, trading the lead as the clock ticks down. Sol performes a "KGB" with a score of 8.07, putting the pressure on Kajiya to respond with a significant trick. Kajiya responds with an exquisite combo, earning a score of 8.63 and turning up the heat on the competition. Unfortunately, Sol can't handle the pressure and crashes on her final trick, giving Kajiya the win by just 0.02 of a point. Battling for third place are Italy's Francesca Bagnoli and Karolina Winkowska (POL), who recently returned to the tour after giving birth. Winkowska shows a cool, calm and collected approach that secures her the third podium spot.
